After a reasonably hot summer full of adventure, holidays in the sun, family time and work, your hair has been through a lot. It’s now time to prepare your hair for Autumn after the sun, chlorine, and salt water.
Like your skin, your scalp can get burned by the of the heat of the sun causing your hair to become dry, dull, and brittle.
So as the season changes, the weather gets colder with a crispness in the air causing dryness in the scalp and extra frizz. The team at Barry’s Hair & Beauty Studio give their top tips that will help solve your autumn/ winter hair problems.
1. Trim off the summer damage
It is a good time of year to get that big chop, getting rid of all the damaged hair from the summer months, no one wants to see those split ends. Why not be brave and go for a whole new look for the new season. For long hair go with some long layers leaving hair smooth and silky or if you have shorter hair and feeling brave go for a tousled bob of a choppy pixie cut.
2. Add more moisture to your hair routine
Autumn brings crisp, dry air which means dried out hair. We need to add more moisture to the hair and scalp. There are a few ways of doing this.
a) A change in your shampoo and conditioner. Barry’s team recommend Kérastase Nutritive Bain Satin 1 and Nutritive Lait Vital. This is great for normal to dry hair leaving the hair feeling nourished, cleansed, and moisturised.

3. Avoid washing your hair every day
Washing your hair less often will help your beautiful hair to retain its moisture. We would suggest washing your hair every second or even third day. It is recommended to invest in a quality dry shampoo to avoid hair looking dull and greasy in between washes.
4. Limit heat styling
It is not always possible during the Autumn/ Winter months however we would recommend letting your hair air-dry natural, this will help retain the moisture and protect against the hot hairdryer. If you do choose to use a blow-dryer, hair straightener or a curling wand we suggest using a protective stray like the Kérastase Discipline Fluidissime Spray to combat heat damage leaving locks looking lustrous and full of vitality.

5. Apply nourishing hair oils to beat the frizz
Choosing the right hair oil can be used as a primer, finisher, sealing the look of split ends and smoothing the hair fibre for a sleek and perfected finish reducing any kind of Autumn frizz. Kérastase Elixir Ultime L’Original Hair Oil, a multi-use, leave-in hair oil that works to beautify the appearance of dull hair does just that. Delivering long-lasting frizz control and heat protection up to 230°C, the leave-in treatment melts into hair to instantly refine and enhance shine for healthy-looking, beautified locks

6. Use a treatment mask
As well as switching up your shampoo and conditioner, it is a good idea to give your hair a regular hair treatment. Masque Reconstituant Hair Mask from Kérastase delivers intense hydration and nourishment leaving hair feeling and looking smoother healthier as well as strengthening every strand. Reinforcing hair from root to tip, the mask reduces breakage and reveals a stronger surface.
